Squid Game season 3 ending explained: Who won the 34th Squid Game?
The winner of the 34th Squid Game is a newborn baby. This baby is the child of Jun-hee (who was the original Player 222) and Myung-gi (Player 333). Jun-hee gave birth during a hide-and-seek game but got hurt badly. She couldn’t move properly in the next game, which was jump rope, and sadly, she died.
Before Jun-hee passed away, Gi-hun saved her baby and promised to take care of them. After she died, the evil VIPs made a shocking decision. They said the baby should become the new Player 222 and continue in the game. This made the other players angry because it meant their money prize would be reduced.
There were nine players left. The game officials told them that they had to choose three people to die, and the rest could live and split the prize money. Six players teamed up and decided to get rid of Gi-hun, the baby, and Min-su (Player 125).
Gi-hun was called into a private meeting with The Front Man, who revealed that he is actually In-ho, the original Player 001. He warned Gi-hun that the other players were planning to kill him and the baby. In-ho gave Gi-hun a knife and said if he kills the others in their sleep, the game will end, and he can leave safely with the baby.
Gi-hun picked up the knife and went to one of the players, but before he could do anything, he saw a vision of Sae-byeok. She reminded him that he is not a killer. So, he didn’t go through with it.
The last game was called “Sky Squid Game.” It took place on three tall pillars shaped like a square, triangle, and circle. To move ahead, someone had to be pushed off at each stage. The last person standing would win the money.
Gi-hun teamed up with Myung-gi, the baby’s father. But Myung-gi betrayed him and tried to kill him so he could win the money alone, even if it meant killing his own baby.
After a fierce fight, Myung-gi was defeated. Only Gi-hun and the baby (now Player 222) were left. But since the game needed one more to die, it wasn’t over yet.
Throughout the season, The Front Man tried to break Gi-hun’s spirit and make him lose his belief in kindness. But Gi-hun didn’t give up his humanity. He gave one last message to The Front Man: “We are not horses. We are human. Humans are…” Then he sacrificed himself.
Player 222, the baby, was announced the winner. The baby was sent to live with Detective Hwang Jun-ho, and a golden credit card with the full prize money (45.6 billion won) was included.
What Happened to No-eul?
No-eul, a female guard in the red uniform, had an emotional story. She used to live in North Korea and left her daughter behind when she defected to the South. Her goal was to find her daughter again.
After the failed rebellion in Season 2, No-eul was ordered to kill one of the players, Player 246, whose daughter had blood cancer. But instead of killing him, she helped him fake his death and escape.
Later, she returned to the island because her boss threatened to hurt Player 246’s daughter. She demanded that all records of Player 246 be erased from the system.
While deleting his files, she found her own. The records said her husband and daughter had died. She was heartbroken and almost took her own life, sitting in the Front Man’s chair with a gun.
But when she learned that Gi-hun had died to give the baby a future, she felt hope again.
In the final scenes, No-eul is at a theme park, getting her portrait painted by Player 246, who doesn’t recognise her. His daughter is now healthy, thanks to donations for her treatment.
Suddenly, No-eul gets a call from a person she hired to find her daughter. They tell her they may have found her daughter alive and living in China. Now it’s up to the viewers to decide if that’s true.
Why Cate Blanchett Appears in the Finale
Famous actress Cate Blanchett appears at the end of the show. She plays a mysterious recruiter who invites people to join the Squid Game by playing ddakji. She appears in an alley in Los Angeles, just as The Front Man drives by.
The show’s creator said he cast her because she has a strong screen presence, not because of any planned spin-off. But her appearance hints that the Squid Game might be happening in America now.
Will there be another Squid Game season?
The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has said that Gi-hun’s journey has officially come to an end. He also shared that making the show was very intense, and he’s not sure if he has the energy to do another full season himself.
However, he didn’t say no to future Squid Game spin-offs. So, even though the main story is finished, the Squid Game universe might continue in new ways.
In an interview, actor Lee Byung-hun, who plays The Front Man (In-ho), hinted that a show about his character could be coming soon. He said it would be really exciting to go deeper into The Front Man’s backstory. He even said he would love to play the role again.
Byung-hun explained that he finds the character very interesting and wants to explore him more. He knows that fans are curious about The Front Man, and he feels the same way.
At the end of Season 3, we saw a flashback that revealed something important: In-ho was once a Squid Game player himself. Just like Gi-hun, he was given a knife and told to kill the other players in their sleep. But unlike Gi-hun, he did it and won the game.
This shows how In-ho became cold and heartless. A spin-off could explore how he changed over time and what led him to become The Front Man. It might also follow him running the Squid Games in a new location, Los Angeles.
Could Gi-hun’s Daughter Return?
If the spin-off takes place in LA, there’s a chance we could see Gi-hun’s daughter again. Now that her father is gone, she might start asking questions about what happened. She could begin her own investigation, uncovering the dark secrets behind the games.
This could add a new emotional and mysterious side to the story, as she tries to get justice for her dad.
