The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie has fans buzzing with excitement, especially after Marvel Studios unveiled its title at CinemaCon. This film is set to draw heavy inspiration from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day comic storyline, which involved major changes for Peter Parker, including the erasure of his marriage to Mary Jane Watson and the restoration of his secret identity.
One of the biggest pieces of speculation surrounding the film is the potential debut of Mr. Negative as a major villain in the MCU. The villain, Martin Li, is known for being a crime boss who harnesses dark forces to wreak havoc on New York City. An insider, Daniel Richtman, revealed that Marvel Studios is on the lookout for an Asian actor between the ages of 30 and 50 for a “big role,” which has led many to believe that Mr. Negative is set to make his live-action debut.
Adding fuel to the fire, Stephen Oyoung, who voiced Martin Li in the Spider-Man video games, has become more active on social media, even hinting at his interest in portraying the character in the upcoming film. His tweet asking “What’s a guy gotta do…” to play the role has sparked further speculation, especially since he has experience voicing the character in the games.
The title itself is a clear reference to the Brand New Day comics, where Spider-Man’s life undergoes significant changes, much like what was seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Peter Parker’s identity being hidden once again. The return to these elements suggests an exciting and potentially complex narrative for the MCU’s Spider-Man.
