Sophie Turner is set to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in the upcoming streaming adaptation of Tomb Raider, following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie, who portrayed the character in the 2001 film. According to sources close to the actress, Turner has been undergoing intense training and preparation to ensure she brings her own unique take on the character, surpassing the expectations set by previous portrayals.
Having gained experience in action sequences and screen combat during her time on Game of Thrones and the X-Men movies, Turner is no stranger to physically demanding roles. An insider revealed to Life & Style that Turner has been “going to town with the training,” noting that her extensive background in stunts and handling extreme costumes and special effects is helping her excel in the role. She is reportedly getting into even better shape to fully embody Lara Croft and sharpen her skills for the demanding role.
The upcoming series, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, has garnered attention not only for Turner’s casting but also for the involvement of Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will be producing and writing the script for the show. The original Tomb Raider movie, starring Angelina Jolie, became a major success upon its release, and Jolie herself spoke fondly of the adventure of filming the action-packed sequences at the time.
The sources also highlighted that Turner’s casting is especially significant as she is the first English native to portray Lara Croft in a live-action adaptation. This gives Turner a unique edge compared to previous actresses, including Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who have played the role in the past.
Fans of the Tomb Raider franchise are eagerly awaiting more details about the show, which are expected to be revealed soon. With Turner’s dedication and experience in action roles, expectations are high for her portrayal of the legendary adventurer.
