Sony enthusiasts have eagerly awaited news about the successor to the acclaimed Sony A7 IV, a mirrorless hybrid camera celebrated for its versatility. Fresh rumors suggest that the highly anticipated Sony A7 V could hit the market between January and March 2025. This timeline, though later than initially expected, has camera aficionados buzzing about what’s to come.
According to sources from Sony Alpha Rumors, the official announcement for the Sony A7 V might occur as early as late 2024, with the camera potentially starting to ship in the first quarter of 2025. This anticipated release is set to follow a period of silence from Sony regarding new camera announcements, making the upcoming launch particularly exciting.
The Sony A7 IV, praised as “the best hybrid mirrorless camera you can buy right now,” has set high expectations for its successor. While specific details about the A7 V’s features remain under wraps, rumors suggest significant upgrades, particularly in “speed” and “new AI features.” This could include advancements similar to those seen in the Sony A7R V and Sony ZV-E1, which incorporated AI chipsets for enhanced video features such as Auto Framing and advanced subject-detection autofocus.
However, the A7 V is expected to forgo 8K video capabilities and global shutter technology, features found in the Sony A9 III, as these are considered niche for most users. The new model may also inherit the A7R V’s four-axis touchscreen, adding further appeal.
One of the A7 IV’s notable attributes was its combination of top-tier stills and video features in a compact body. If the A7 V can enhance this blend and address some of the A7 IV’s limitations—such as its burst shooting ceiling and 4K/60p video crop—it could solidify its position as a leading choice for both photo and video enthusiasts.
Potential delays in product announcements, attributed to global parts supply issues, have been noted, with Canon recently experiencing similar delays. Despite this, Sony Alpha Rumors also hint at upcoming releases, including the Sony A1 II and new lenses, suggesting that the camera landscape may soon see a notable resurgence.
The Sony A7 V’s release, though not expected until early 2025, is poised to generate considerable excitement among photographers and videographers alike.
