Sofía Vergara had a big year with her powerful role as the notorious Cocaine Godmother Griselda Blanco in the hit Netflix series — critics loved her performance, and she even snagged nominations at the Golden Globes and Emmys. But despite all that buzz, she didn’t actually win any awards, which left her feeling pretty frustrated.
She opened up about this on Jimmy Fallon’s show recently. When Jimmy praised her for the nominations, she quickly shot back, “I didn’t win any of it!” Jimmy tried to reassure her, saying, “It doesn’t matter,” but Sofía wasn’t having it — she insisted, “It matters.”
Sofía even playfully teased Jodie Foster, who did take home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her role in True Detective: Night Country. Sofía joked, “Jodie Foster took everything. Yeah, but it doesn’t matter.” She also admitted she tried to steal Jodie’s award right there at the Golden Globes, saying, “I tried, I tried to stop her in the middle of the Golden Globes, but it was too late.”
If you missed it, this hilarious moment went viral back in January. When Jodie went on stage to accept her award, Sofía stood up from her seat, walked over, and said, “Oh no, give me one!” The cameras caught it all, and even Jodie Foster laughed and gave a shout-out to Sofía’s funny antics during her speech.
When Jimmy asked if she plans to come back with more amazing performances and actually win next time, Sofía didn’t hold back — she said she doesn’t want to come back just to lose again.
She also shared that serious roles like Griselda are a lot tougher than the comedy work she’s known for in Modern Family. Plus, she’s not a fan of working with prosthetics and would prefer to avoid them in her next project.
