Meghan Markle is once again at the center of a social media storm, this time over a seemingly innocent St. Patrick’s Day tradition. The Duchess of Sussex shared videos on Instagram of herself making green waffles for her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but the process quickly became the subject of controversy.
In the videos, Markle is seen whisking green batter and using a Cuisinart Waring Pro Belgian Waffle Maker. However, the final waffles she served lacked the signature ridges created by that specific appliance, leading fans to speculate that she had faked the entire process. Some suggested that Markle had served store-bought frozen waffles and pretended to make them from scratch.
Markle captioned the photo with “For the kids…”, showing the green waffle topped with a kiwi slice, blueberries, and whipped cream. While some defended her, dismissing the criticism as trivial, others were quick to call it another example of Markle allegedly fabricating her life narrative. One user on X (formerly Twitter) even wrote, “Why go through all the trouble to fake a waffle? It’s like she can’t help herself.” Others expressed similar sentiments, calling her actions a “performance.”
In response, sources close to Markle clarified that she had used two different waffle makers: one for the children’s waffles and another for her own. Markle later posted a photo of her own waffles, which were neatly stacked with strawberries and cream, alongside an iced matcha latte. She captioned it with, “…and us! Happy St. Patrick’s Day (green heart emoji).”
While the incident may seem minor, it has reignited online scrutiny over Markle’s highly curated social media presence. Critics argue that even her most mundane moments are carefully crafted for public consumption. Whether it was a simple oversight or an intentional staging, the waffle debate has once again thrust Meghan Markle into the spotlight, where every move she makes remains under intense public scrutiny.
