Renowned rap icon Snoop Dogg has consistently proven elusive when it comes to deciphering his true stance. The enigmatic artist has a penchant for altering his perspectives, leaving us momentarily swayed whenever he declares intentions such as quitting smoking. His penchant for reinvention extends beyond personal habits, with a repertoire that boasts numerous name changes and unexpected alliances, like his camaraderie with Martha Stewart and his feud with Iggy Azalea. Snoop Dogg, in essence, embodies a sense of unpredictability.
Adding another layer to the complex narrative, after years of openly expressing frustration towards the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, Snoop Dogg recently made a surprising statement to the Sunday Times. He professed to harbor “nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.” This abrupt change in tone raises eyebrows, particularly since it aligns with a period where the former president faces financial challenges.
When confronted with questions about his newfound fondness for Trump, Snoop Dogg provided a borderline-relatable rationale, stating, “He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.” While acknowledging Trump’s pardon of Michael “Harry-O” Harris, a co-founder of Death Row Records, Snoop’s memory appears selective, conveniently omitting the longstanding discord between him and the former president.
The pardon, which freed Harris after 33 years on drug and attempted murder charges, did receive gratitude from Snoop Dogg in 2021, describing it as “great work for the president and his team on the way out.” However, Snoop’s historical animosity towards Trump is undeniable, manifesting in various forms, such as the controversial “Lavender” music video where he symbolically targeted a clown resembling Trump.
Even as recent as 2020, Snoop Dogg voiced his strong disapproval of Trump in footage released by XXL Magazine, labeling the president as “a f***ing weirdo” and expressing disdain for those who supported him. The stark contrast between his long-standing critique of Trump and the sudden change of heart following Harris’ pardon prompts speculation among his loyal fan base. Some may even wonder, without passing judgment, if Snoop Dogg might currently be under the influence.
