Rapper Snoop Dogg recently shared on the It’s Giving podcast that a scene in Pixar’s 2022 film Lightyear left him unsettled when he took his grandson to see the movie. His grandson asked, “Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!” and repeatedly questioned how two women could have a child. Snoop said the exchange “f-cked me up” and added, “I’m like, scared to go to the movies,” admitting he felt unprepared for the conversation. He reflected on being put “in the middle of sh-t that I don’t have an answer for” and questioned whether such moments should appear in children’s films, saying, “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Lightyear drew attention because it includes a brief depiction of a same-sex couple raising a child and Pixar’s first same-sex kiss in a feature film. The kiss was reportedly cut and later restored after internal pushback, with employees and allies claiming Disney executives had censored “overtly gay affection.” Its reinstatement sparked a global conversation about LGBTQ+ representation in family films.

Chris Evans, who voiced the lead character, defended the inclusion in an interview with Variety, calling it “nice, and wonderful” and expressing frustration that it became news. He emphasized that the goal is for such moments to become normalized, saying that one day people will look back “and just be shocked that it took us this long to get there.”
