If you loved the twists and dark humor of A Simple Favor and its recent sequel, Another Simple Favor, there might be even more to come. Director Paul Feig, who helmed both films, says he sees a future for the franchise—and he already has ideas in mind.
Speaking with PEOPLE, Feig revealed, “I definitely know where I want it to go,” referring to a possible third film. He added that the sequel was “too much fun,” and he hopes the cast and crew are up for one more round. He even hinted at taking the next movie on an “even weirder, international adventure.”
The films star Blake Lively as Emily Nelson, a glamorous and mysterious woman with a secretive past, and Anna Kendrick as Stephanie Smothers, a cheerful single mom with a parenting vlog. In the first film, Stephanie is pulled into a wild mystery after Emily suddenly disappears.
The new sequel, Another Simple Favor, picks up a few years later. This time, the story moves to the stunning island of Capri, Italy, where Emily is getting married to a wealthy Italian businessman. But what starts as a lavish wedding soon takes a dark turn with murder and betrayal.
Spoilers ahead: By the end of the sequel, Stephanie has become a famous true-crime writer. She also takes on the responsibility of fostering Emily’s son. Meanwhile, Emily’s long-lost triplet sister, Charity—who had been pretending to be Emily—is finally caught and sent to jail. Emily, as always, slips back into the shadows and continues her secret life in Rome.
The movie ends with a cliffhanger: Emily receives a mysterious envelope from her powerful and shady mother-in-law, Portia. What’s inside the envelope is never revealed, teasing that the story isn’t over yet.
So while nothing’s official, fans can stay hopeful. Paul Feig clearly has more in store for Emily and Stephanie—and if the first two movies are anything to go by, the next one could be even wilder.
