Chadwick Boseman, the actor who brought Black Panther to life, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame after his passing. The ceremony on November 20 was emotional. His wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, placed a pair of his shoes on the star, symbolically letting him “step” onto the memorial. Family, friends, and co-stars from his films attended to pay tribute.
Simone, who married Chadwick months before his death in a private ceremony, also brought a framed picture of him. She shared the moment with his brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, celebrating Chadwick’s life and legacy. She described him as more than an actor or artist, calling him a spiritual teacher, a devoted family man, and someone whose friends, team, and colleagues believed in him and lifted him up.
Many of Chadwick’s collaborators attended. Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright, his co-stars from Black Panther, were there, along with the film’s director Ryan Coogler. Coogler remembered Chadwick as incredibly generous and committed to his craft, even while facing his illness. Viola Davis, who starred with him in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, said his work reminded people they are not alone and called him more than just an actor delivering brilliant performances.
Chadwick’s career started in theatre and television before he moved to films. He first appeared as T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and then led Black Panther in 2018, becoming the first Black actor to headline a Marvel franchise. He battled colon cancer privately for four years but kept working, performing his own stunts and giving everything to his roles.
During the ceremony, Simone reflected on his impact. She said Chadwick had a vast heart and could give so much of himself to everyone while still having more to share with the world. She spoke to him directly, honoring his devotion, courage, kindness, and brilliance, calling him both a hero and an icon.
Disney CEO Bob Iger also attended, alongside Chadwick’s family and friends. The ceremony was a moment to celebrate his career and the lasting mark he left on Hollywood.
