The anticipated Shōgun show is expected to be one of the biggest OTT titles globally; a rich account of the feudal power system of Japan and the life of Lord Yoshii Toranaga, combined with the account of the life of an English sailor, John Blackthorne. Fans are anxious and excited for Season 2, which will continue to bring audiences more political intrigue, dark warfare, and family rivalry to the dramatic storytelling that illustrates the journey to establishing the Shogunate after the successes of Season 1 and a total of 18 Emmy wins. Filming began in Vancouver in January 2026. Season 2 is set to take place 10 years after Season 1 and is expected to premiere soon.

Shōgun Season 2: All-new Updates on Release Date

In January 2026, production for the new TV show began in Vancouver, Canada. It is estimated that it will take approximately 6-7 months for the production to be finished. There has not been an announcement of any official premiere dates; however, due to the amount of time it should take to film, the amount of time needed after filming for post-production, and the amount of money spent producing the show, many sources believe that the show will be available via streaming by early 2027 or possibly late 2026 if production finishes quickly. However, the earliest possible date is early 2027, since post-production will take some time to complete after filming has completed. The series will be available for streaming on Hulu (and FX on Hulu) in the United States, with many other countries having access via Disney+.

Shōgun Season 2: All-New Updates on Plot

This second season happens ten years after the first season ended. The story will pick up where season one ended, and it will continue the reuniting arcs of Toranaga and Blackthorne, who each came from different backgrounds; however, that’s where their similarities end. The tone of the story has become much darker and more intense than in season one. The setting of this story will take place after the Sekigahara (the climax of season one) and will go through Toranaga’s rise to power as he becomes the shogun, leading up to the Siege of Osaka. The creators have indicated that they will use a much “darker” approach to this season, with continued themes of political intrigue, treachery, warfare, and the development of empires within Japan’s feudal system. While season two will not directly use any of Clavell’s novels, the creators will continue with their interpretations of actual historical events.

Filming for season two has begun, as seen from several pictures of the set that are circulating on the Internet; therefore, have a lookout for any trailers or other announcements from either FX or Hulu related to this great show! Also, this is the perfect time to rewatch season one.
