Fans of Shetland don’t have to wait much longer for the return of detectives Ruth Calder and Alison “Tosh” McIntosh. The first trailer for season 10 has just dropped, and it looks gripping.
This season opens with a chilling murder in a quiet, remote village. DI Ruth Calder, played by Ashley Jensen, and DI Alison O’Donnell’s Tosh are called in to investigate the brutal death of an elderly woman named Eadie Tulloch. Her body is found outdoors, exposed to the elements for several days.
In the trailer, a new character, procurator fiscal Matt Blake, played by Samuel Anderson, tells Calder that he’s heard it was a rough case. Calder’s simple but haunting reply says it all: “About as bad as it gets.”
The new season will have six episodes and was filmed earlier this year. It’s set to premiere on BBC One and iPlayer at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5th.
According to the BBC’s official summary, Calder and Tosh soon discover that the people living in the small community of Lunniswick may not be telling them everything. As they dig deeper, they uncover a web of secrets and lies about the murdered woman’s past. The investigation turns even more personal when one of the team members finds themselves emotionally tied to the case, putting loyalty and trust to the test.
Alongside the returning leads, familiar faces like Steven Robertson, Lewis Howden, Steven Miller, Anne Kidd, Conor McCarry, Eubha Akilade, and Angus Miller will also be back. New cast members joining this season include Clive Russell from Game of Thrones, Louise Brealey from Sherlock, Ellie Haddington from Motherland, and Niall MacGregor from Line of Duty.
With new characters, emotional tension, and a chilling mystery at its core, season 10 of Shetland looks set to be one of the most intense yet.
