A new app called Shelf is making waves by allowing users to showcase their media habits and connect with others based on their cultural interests. The platform enables users to create a personalized “storefront” that highlights their favourite movies, shows, books, games, and music, making it easier to engage with like-minded individuals.
The Shelf app, available on both iOS and Android, integrates with popular media services such as Apple Music, Goodreads, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube. Users can easily track their progress in reading or watching content and customize their digital storefronts, which update automatically based on their consumption activities. Koodos Labs, the company behind Shelf, plans to expand the list of compatible services, including popular gaming platforms like Steam.
Koodos has also introduced a private version of Shelf, allowing users to track their media consumption discreetly. Launched publicly this summer after beta testing, Shelf has amassed half a billion items curated by its users. The platform is growing rapidly, with new shelves being created at a rate of 40% month-to-month, and users visiting the app an average of five times per week.
The startup has successfully raised $7 million from notable investors, including First Round Capital, M13, Blockchain Capital, and IDEO. Noteworthy backers include founders of companies like Zynga and Pinterest. With its innovative approach to media sharing and consumption, Shelf is poised to make a significant impact in the social networking space.
