At the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, Shania Twain couldn’t contain her excitement about Sabrina Carpenter’s recent cover of her iconic song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” Carpenter, who is currently on tour promoting her new album Short n’ Sweet, performed the track during a concert stop in Toronto, Canada, and Twain took it as a significant compliment.
In her Instagram Stories, Twain shared a clip of Carpenter’s rendition, expressing her admiration for the young artist. Speaking on the red carpet to E! News, Twain described Carpenter as “genuinely talented” and “smart,” emphasizing how flattering it was to hear her song interpreted by such a gifted performer. Twain remarked, “It’s just a huge compliment. I mean she’s such a talented person!”
Carpenter’s cover was featured in a “wheel of fortune” segment during her show, adding a personal touch since Twain hails from Ontario. This tribute to Twain clearly resonated with both the audience and the artist herself.
Beyond her praise for Carpenter, Twain was also the host of the star-studded event. Her Las Vegas residency show, Shania Twain: Come On Over—The Las Vegas Residency – All The Hits!, received a nomination in the 2024 concert tour category. This year’s top nominee was Zach Bryan, who racked up an impressive 19 nominations, followed closely by Beyoncé with 17.
Twain described hosting the awards as a full-circle moment, reminiscing about her early days in Nashville as a new recording artist. She expressed joy in reconnecting with fellow artists and celebrating the genre of country music in such a dedicated space.
