Speaking with NBC Los Angeles ahead of the event, Shakira gushed about how excited she was to see Rihanna and casually mentioned she had “just heard the news” about Rihanna’s pregnancy. Realizing her accidental reveal, the Hips Don’t Lie star covered her mouth and sheepishly asked, “Am I not supposed to say that?” before laughing it off.
Rihanna looked radiant in a Marc Jacobs suit-inspired dress that hugged her bump perfectly, topped with a striking oversized hat. She joked to Access Hollywood about no longer having to suck her stomach in, embracing motherhood openly.
Her boyfriend A$AP Rocky, who also co-chaired the Met Gala this year, expressed his joy, calling the baby a “blessing” and sharing how amazing it felt to welcome another child. He added that most fans had reacted positively to the news, which was a relief.
For Rihanna’s many fans waiting on her next album R9, the pregnancy won’t cause much delay. At the carpet, Rihanna hinted that maybe just a few videos would be postponed, but she assured reporters with a playful, “I can sing,” promising her music is still very much on the way.
