Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift may have first crossed paths through their short-lived romances with the Jonas Brothers, but what blossomed from those early teenage relationships has stood the test of time. The Only Murders in the Building star recently reflected on her bond with Swift during her appearance on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, revealing how the two have remained inseparable for nearly two decades.
“Taylor [Swift] and I dated the Jonas Brothers,” Gomez shared candidly. “I dated Nick, and she dated Joe. And everything was cute; we were young. We all know and love each other now, and it’s so cute. We don’t know what we were doing—she and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet.”
Gomez, who was just 15 at the time, recalled how she and Swift, then 18, bonded over breakups and leaned on one another through heartbreak. “Like most girls do, we connected over those moments, and it really brought us closer,” she said. That connection, sparked back in 2008, grew into one of the most enduring friendships in Hollywood.
The actress also revealed a special memory that highlights just how early she was part of Swift’s musical journey. “I believe Love Story was the first song she had ever played for me, and it wasn’t released yet,” Gomez recalled. “I was in a hotel room, and I remember it vividly. It was just one of those songs I instantly heard and thought, ‘This is one of the most beautiful songs ever.’”
Now, more than 16 years later, Gomez and Swift continue to be a cornerstone in each other’s lives, supporting one another both personally and professionally. According to reports, Gomez is preparing to tie the knot with Benny Blanco this September, with Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, expected to be on the guest list—a true full-circle moment for one of Hollywood’s most beloved friendships.
