Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco made their first official red carpet appearance as a couple at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The pair arrived at the Peacock Theater on Sunday night and shared sweet, affectionate moments while posing for photos.
Gomez, whose Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building earned eight nominations this year, wore a custom sleeveless red Louis Vuitton gown. She accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, while Blanco, whose real name is Benjamin Levin, opted for a sleek all-black tuxedo with a jacquard button-down shirt. The couple held hands, smiled, and even shared a kiss, marking a memorable debut as a duo on the red carpet.
This appearance comes just weeks before their wedding, expected later this month in Montecito, California. The couple got engaged in December and recently celebrated with Bachelor and Bachelorette parties. They’ve also worked together professionally, releasing the joint album I Said I Love You First. Gomez described the project as very personal, telling Rolling Stone that it was the most intimate she’s ever been in a studio. She explained that the songs combine their shared stories and that the title of the album came from her, since she “said ‘I love you’ first.”
The Emmy Awards were a big night not only for the couple but also for Only Murders in the Building, which is nominated for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Martin Short. The couple had skipped the MTV VMAs in New York last week, despite having two nominations, because Blanco avoids flying and Gomez was promoting the show’s fifth season in the city. On On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Blanco joked about his fear of flying, describing long trips by boat as “like the Titanic.”
Gomez, who turned 33 in July, recently reflected on this new stage in her life. On the Therapuss podcast, she said she feels freer and less weighed down by things that used to matter. She added that in her thirties, she feels lighter and happier, enjoying a stage of life where small worries don’t hold her back.
