Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco look back on early days of their relationship

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco recently shared an awkward but endearing moment from their early days as a couple—showing up way too early to Taylor Swift’s party.

During their appearance on Spotify’s Countdown To on March 19, ahead of their joint album I Said I Love You First, the duo reminisced about their relationship’s beginnings. Gomez recalled a particularly cringeworthy moment at one of Swift’s post-awards show gatherings.

“I don’t know if this was the first, but it was actually really funny. As a couple, we went to Taylor’s [Swift] party after some awards show,” Gomez said.

However, they quickly realized they had made a major social faux pas.

“I don’t know, it was kind of cute, but I was mortified. Apparently, cool people don’t show up to parties on time,” she admitted.

Blanco chimed in with some lighthearted teasing, pointing out that they’re always the first to arrive anywhere—comparing Gomez’s punctuality to his mother’s.

“We’re the first people at every single party when I go with you. You show up when, like, my mother shows up to a party,” he joked.

But arriving early wasn’t the only awkward part of the night. At the time, Gomez and Blanco were still keeping their relationship a secret.

“No, I thought you were gonna talk about the fact that no one knew we were dating, and we were hiding,” Blanco added.

Gomez and Swift have shared a deep friendship since 2008, and Swift was one of the first to celebrate Gomez and Blanco’s engagement in December 2024. The Fortnight singer has even expressed her wish to be the flower girl at their wedding.

Before that, though, the couple is focusing on their music, with I Said I Love You First set to drop on March 21.
