The Scary Movie franchise is officially making a comeback, and it’s bringing back two of its most beloved stars. Regina Hall and Anna Faris have confirmed they will reprise their hilarious roles as Brenda and Cindy in Scary Movie 6.

This new instalment will also mark the return of the Wayans brothers, Marlon, Shawn and Keenen, who are back writing an all-new script for the first time in 18 years. The trio, who originally created the franchise, said they’re thrilled to be working together again and hope the new film will bring audiences the same kind of laughter that once had people “rolling in the aisles.”

Hall and Faris shared their excitement too, joking that they’d “literally die for” their old collaborators, especially since Brenda has already met some over-the-top on-screen fates. Fans of the franchise will know their characters helped define the outrageous, slapstick energy that made the films cult classics.

Michael Tiddes, a longtime Wayans collaborator, will direct the movie. Other cast announcements are still under wraps, but there’s already buzz about possible fresh faces joining the comedy. One name that keeps coming up is Scream star Melissa Barrera, who many fans think would be perfect for the film, especially since Scary Movie often parodies the Scream franchise.

When asked if she’d be open to the idea, Barrera said she’d love to try pure comedy and is very open to joining a project like Scary Movie 6. For now, she has a few serious roles lined up, but she didn’t close the door on the possibility.

With old favourites returning, the Wayans brothers back at the helm, and the promise of new surprises, Scary Movie 6 is shaping up to be a double reunion and a big comedy event for fans who have been waiting years for another instalment.
