Scarlett Johansson has officially confirmed that she will not be returning as Black Widow in Avengers: Doomsday or any future Marvel movies.

Although some big names like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth are returning to the MCU in different ways, Johansson made it clear her Marvel journey is over. Speaking to Vanity Fair, she said:

“I miss my friends and would love to work with them again, but Black Widow’s story is complete. I don’t want to mess with that—it’s important for the fans too.”

Even though she loves the Marvel cast, Johansson said it wouldn’t make sense to bring her character back after such a powerful ending in Avengers: Endgame.

Fun Fact: Scarlett wasn’t the first choice to play Natasha Romanoff! The role was originally offered to Emily Blunt, who turned it down due to scheduling conflicts.

Johansson will next appear in the upcoming sci-fi action movie Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp. She plays Zora, a covert-ops expert, in this high-stakes adventure.

The film also stars Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey and is set to release in the U.S. on July 2.

Talking about her role, Scarlett shared that the intense action scenes and storyline made her really rely on her instincts as an actor. She also flew to Las Vegas recently to showcase scenes from the movie at CinemaCon, and says she’s excited for fans to see it.
