San Diego State head coach Sean Lewis was thrilled after the Aztecs beat Colorado State 45–24 on Friday night. He called it a “great program win” and praised everyone for their effort during a short week.

Quarterback Jayden Denegal had a standout game, completing 13 of 16 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns. Lewis said the performance reflected all the hard work the team had put in. He also gave credit to the receivers for their skill and preparation.

Receiver Jordan Napier caught seven passes for 153 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown. Lewis said Napier’s choice to return from the transfer portal was key. “Now the proof’s in the pudding,” he said. “You can accomplish all your dreams right here on the Mesa.”

On the ground, the Aztecs ran for 282 yards. Byron Cardwell Jr. had 129 yards and a touchdown. Lucky Sutton added 113 yards and two touchdowns. Lewis called it “a luxury” to have three local backs sharing the load and praised the offensive line.

Special teams also made a difference. Gabriel Plascencia kicked a 53-yard field goal, the longest in Snapdragon Stadium history. Lewis said having a kicker who can hit from that distance “changes everything.”

While praising the offense, Lewis challenged his defense to stay focused. He warned against complacency and said the team must finish strong in every game.

The Aztecs are now 4–1. Lewis believes the team is building momentum but still has work to do. “We’ve yet to play a complete game in all three phases together,” he said. “We don’t want to seek comfort. We want to continue to grow.”
