S.Coups and Mingyu to become SEVENTEEN’s 4th subunit

K-pop idols S.Coups and Mingyu are preparing to debut as SEVENTEEN’s newest subunit, according to a report by Korean media outlet My Daily on July 11. This marks the fourth subunit from the group, following the trio BSS (Boo Seok Soon) and the duos Jeonghan x Wonwoo and Hoshi x Woozi. The launch of this unit is part of a special project to celebrate SEVENTEEN’s 10th anniversary and is meant as a heartfelt gift to their fans.

Fans, known as Carats, are thrilled by the news. Many had been hoping for an S.Coups and Mingyu unit for quite some time, especially after seeing their chemistry and energy on stage during the Shadow performance at the BE THE SUN concert in Jakarta. That moment had already built a mini fanbase for the duo, and with the official announcement, excitement has only grown stronger.

This subunit is also unique compared to the others, as it’s made up entirely of SEVENTEEN’s hip-hop team members. The group is split into three teams—vocal, performance, and hip-hop. While the other subunits have mixed members from different teams, this one focuses solely on the rap line, led by S.Coups himself. The duo is part of SEVENTEEN’s special “rebirth” anniversary plan, which aims to give fans new experiences during a time of big transitions for the group.

With Hoshi and Woozi soon to begin their military service and Jeonghan and Wonwoo already enlisted, fans had been bracing for a quiet period. But this new pairing of S.Coups and Mingyu is seen as a much-needed comfort and source of joy during that time.

SEVENTEEN recently released their fifth full album, HAPPY BURSTDAY, on May 26, 2025. The title track “Thunder” performed well on the charts. They also released a special episode of their popular variety show GOING SVT, tying it to the new album’s playful concept, just as they’ve done with past comebacks.

Looking ahead, SEVENTEEN is preparing for another world tour, following their RIGHT HERE concert held on February 16 earlier this year.
