Ryan Reynolds has admitted to leaking test footage from the sets of Deadpool. The actor spoke about it during the Toronto International Film Festival, saying he felt the footage was something fans would enjoy.

The clip was originally CGI test footage produced by Tim Miller as a mock for the 2012 Deadpool movie. It surfaced online in 2024 and quickly went viral. Reynolds confessed, “Yes, I cheated a little, but I think I was onto something that people would be interested in.”

Reynolds explained that he had shot the test footage a few years prior, but the studio wasn’t interested in it at the time. He said, “Deadpool’s a fringe character. People didn’t really know who he was, and I loved him. I was obsessed with it because I loved that he knew he was in a comic book movie. It was kind of meta; it was kind of new. But the test footage existed, and it really was a case study of how this could work. And they just wouldn’t do anything with it.”

Reflecting on the leak, Reynolds admitted he initially felt guilty, joking about confronting himself in the mirror. Despite that, the clip’s popularity pushed the studio to greenlight the movie within 24 hours. He added, “And I’m grateful that I listened to that instinct, and I’m grateful that I did the wrong thing in that moment.”

Reynolds has been a part of every Deadpool film and recently starred alongside Hugh Jackman, who reprised his role as Wolverine. He is also expected to return as Deadpool in the upcoming Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday.
