Ryan Coogler, the director known for Black Panther and Creed, is gearing up for a major project—he’s set to direct a reboot of The X-Files. In a recent podcast appearance on Last Podcast on the Left, Coogler dropped some exciting details about the reboot, including the potential involvement of Gillian Anderson, who famously portrayed Agent Dana Scully in the original series.

Coogler spoke highly of Anderson, calling her “incredible” and hinted that the two have already discussed the project. He expressed hope that she will be involved, saying, “Fingers crossed there.” When asked about the reboot, he shared that it is his “immediately next” project, fueling excitement among fans of the long-running paranormal series.

“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it,” Coogler said. He promised that if the team does their job right, some of the episodes will be “really f**king scary,” teasing that the reboot will stay true to the eerie, suspenseful nature of the original show.

Coogler also mentioned his goal to create something special that will not only appeal to longtime X-Files fans but also attract new viewers, aiming to deliver an engaging and thrilling experience for everyone.

Following Coogler’s comments, Gillian Anderson shared her thoughts on the reboot in an interview, calling Coogler a “genius” and saying she couldn’t think of a better person to take on the project. However, she made it clear that her involvement isn’t confirmed yet, adding, “Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing.” That said, she didn’t rule out making an appearance, suggesting that there’s a good chance she could return in some capacity.

Anderson, who starred alongside David Duchovny as Agent Scully for the original nine seasons of The X-Files (1993-2002), as well as in the revival seasons (2016-2018), remains one of the most iconic figures in the show’s history. Fans will be eager to see if she makes a return to the franchise in Coogler’s upcoming reboot.
