Ryan Coogler recently shared heartfelt memories about Chadwick Boseman during an appearance on The Breakfast Club. Reflecting on the loss of his close friend and collaborator, Coogler revealed that Chadwick’s death had a profound impact on Michael B. Jordan, saying it hit him the hardest. Coogler described Boseman as a “fully baked man from the South,” highlighting his maturity, wisdom, and grounded nature—qualities that made him an invaluable presence on set.
Coogler, who worked with Boseman on Black Panther, reminisced about how Boseman, with his deep life experiences and Southern upbringing, served as a guiding influence on both Coogler and Jordan. He shared that Boseman taught them patience and life lessons through his example, moving at a slower, more deliberate pace that contrasted with the younger, more fast-paced mentality that Coogler and Jordan had at the time.
Coogler also mentioned how Boseman’s approach to acting was unique—he took his time, arrived early on set, and maintained a sense of calm and composure. Coogler even recalled a moment when he asked Jordan, “What would Chad do in this role?” because of the respect they both had for how Boseman handled his craft.
As Coogler and Jordan prepare for their new collaboration on Sinners, set to release in theaters on April 18, they continue to carry the lessons they learned from Boseman, honoring his legacy both personally and professionally.
