Russia launches largest drone attack since the start of war in Ukraine

Russia targeted Kyiv with its largest drone attack of the war during the early hours on Saturday, which as per the Ukrainian officials is the start of the winter campaign aimed at destroying the country’s energy infrastructure.

Kyiv city authorities said five people were injured and reportedly near 200 buildings, including 77 residential ones, were left without power as a result of the barrage.

The attack began on 2.30 am on Saturday and lasted for six hours, with Iranian-made Shahed Kamikaze drone coming in waves and changing course during its flight to confuse and evade the defenses, according to Ukrainian air force.

Many of the Kyiv residents, which is more than 3 million, woke up to the air raid sirens and push alerts on their phones, urging them to take shelter.

The air force reportedly downed 74 to 75 drones in the regions of Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, and Kyiv.

Yuriy Ihnat, an air force spokesperson claimed that around 66 drones were downed in the capital city and the surrounding region.
