Warner Bros. has made the decision to release previously unseen footage from the 2010 film Arthur, including outtakes, during the ongoing civil case involving Russell Brand. The studio revealed this at a recent New York Supreme Court hearing, as reported by The Times of London. The footage, which is expected to range from four to eight hours, will be made available after the judge rejected Brand’s request to delay the civil case.
The case was brought forward by a woman identified as Jane Doe, who claims that Brand assaulted her on the Arthur film set. According to her account, Brand exposed himself and assaulted her while a crew member stood watch outside the bathroom. Both Brand and Warner Bros. have denied the allegations.
In 2023, the woman spoke to The Sunday Times about the emotional toll of the incident, saying she felt “used and discarded” and that Brand’s behavior on set would likely cost her her job rather than him. She described feeling like an object for his “momentary titillation” and expressed frustration with how often bad behavior on set goes ignored. “If I had come forward and said something to, say, even a production assistant on the set, what are they going to do? Are they going to fire Russell Brand, or are they going to fire me?” she questioned.
In addition to this civil case, Brand is facing multiple criminal charges in the United Kingdom. He has been summoned to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2, where he faces five charges of rape and sexual assault. Brand has denied all allegations, calling them false and asserting that all his relationships were consensual.
Brand’s legal team had sought to delay the civil trial in the U.S. in light of the ongoing criminal case in the UK, but the judge denied the request. His lawyer, Mark Cuccaro, has expressed concerns about potential further charges in the future. The case continues to attract significant public attention, especially as more women come forward with similar allegations against the comedian and actor.
