Rockstar Games has some good news to share after a scary morning at their main office in Edinburgh. A small explosion and fire broke out at the Rockstar North building early on Monday, January 19. Luckily, it happened around 5:00 AM when most people were still asleep at home. The studio confirmed that nobody was hurt and the building is still safe to use. Firefighters spent a few hours securing the area, but the team was able to get back to work the very same day.

The trouble started because of a broken heating boiler in the basement. Even though it caused some structural damage to the room, the company says it won’t slow down their work on Grand Theft Auto 6. This office is the heart of the project, so fans were worried any accident could cause another delay. Rockstar made it clear that they are still open and moving forward as planned. This is a big relief for everyone waiting for the next game.

This incident is just the latest hurdle for the studio. Late in 2025, Rockstar actually fired more than thirty employees who were caught leaking secrets. These workers were allegedly sharing top-secret details about a new 32-player online mode in a private group. The studio has been extra strict about security ever since a massive leak back in 2022 showed footage of the game before it was ready. They are doing everything they can to keep the surprises safe until the big launch.

In the middle of all this stress, there is also a very touching story coming out of the studio. A developer from another company asked Rockstar if they could help a family member who is terminally ill. The fan only has a few months to live and might not make it to the official release date. It sounds like Rockstar and their parent company, Take-Two, have reached out to grant this wish. While they haven’t made a big public announcement, it seems they are setting up a private session so this fan can play the game early.

As for when everyone else can play, the date has shifted a few times. Originally, we hoped for a 2025 release, but it was moved to May 2026. Then, just a few months ago, Rockstar announced a final push to November 19, 2026. They want the game to be perfect and polished when it finally hits shelves. After waiting over a decade since the last game, most fans are happy to wait a little longer if it means the game is a masterpiece.
