As Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on April 29, royal enthusiasts recalled a minor mishap that occurred at their grand wedding ceremony in 2011 involving the late Queen Elizabeth II.
According to royal etiquette, it is customary for a woman to exit a vehicle on the curbside of the street. However, on the day of Prince William and Kate’s wedding, Queen Elizabeth’s car mistakenly parked on the reverse side, leading her to exit from the wrong side.
Etiquette expert Alexandra Messervy explained the origins of this tradition on the A Right Royal podcast, attributing it to the days when royals traveled in carriages and horses. Men would walk on the outside of the pavement to shield women from mud splashes.
Despite the minor faux pas, Queen Elizabeth gracefully made her way into Westminster Abbey to bless her grandson and his wife on their special day.
In celebration of their anniversary this year, Prince William and Princess Kate shared a never-before-seen portrait from their wedding day, marking 13 years of marriage. However, amidst their joyous occasion, the couple faced unexpected challenges as Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in March. Throughout this difficult time, Prince William has been a pillar of support for his wife, emphasizing the importance of love and kindness from their family and supporters.
