According to reports from IGN, Capcom is currently in the process of remaking two classic titles from the Resident Evil franchise: Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. This information was shared by a reliable source known as ‘AestheticGamer1’ or ‘Dusk Golem’ on Twitter, who has a track record of accurate leaks in the gaming industry.
While Capcom has not officially commented on these reports, IGN has confirmed that both Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica remakes are indeed the next titles scheduled to be released in the Resident Evil series. However, fans eagerly awaiting confirmation or further details from Capcom may have to wait a little longer.
In the Twitter thread, ‘Dusk Golem’ also mentioned that expectations for the announcement of Resident Evil 9 this summer should be tempered, as rumors suggest that its announcement is still far off. Additionally, rumors about a Resident Evil 1: Remake are dismissed, with ‘Dusk Golem’ stating that the game is not currently in development. Similarly, there is no indication of a Resident Evil 5: Remake being in the works.
According to ‘Dusk Golem,’ if the information they have gathered is accurate, Resident Evil 9 may not be released until late 2025 or 2026. Instead, Capcom is reportedly focusing on remaking Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, originally released in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast, follows the story of fan-favorites Claire and Chris Redfield. On the other hand, Resident Evil Zero, released in 2002 for the GameCube, delves into the partnership between Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen.
This move by Capcom suggests that they are continuing their strategy of remaking classic titles from the Resident Evil series while also aiming to release new installments every few years. Recent examples of this strategy include the successful release of Resident Evil Village in 2021, followed by the highly anticipated remake of Resident Evil 4, which sold over 6.48 million copies after its release last year.
