Xabi Alonso has returned to Real Madrid, but this time as the head coach instead of a player. He replaced Carlo Ancelotti and is already making plans for the team’s future. One of his main goals is to help Jude Bellingham grow even more.
Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 and quickly became a favourite with fans because of his goals, assists, and endless energy on the field.
But with a new coach comes new ideas. Alonso said that Bellingham is a very special player who can succeed in any position. Now, Alonso wants to move Bellingham a little deeper on the field, closer to the midfield, where he can control the game more.
In the past, Bellingham has played more like a second striker, scoring many goals, 23 in his first season and 14 in his second. But since Real Madrid has Kylian Mbappe playing upfront, Bellingham might not need to play so far forward anymore.
Alonso believes Bellingham should focus on being a midfielder, helping to run the team’s play. He said, “I see him as a midfielder. We’ll try to make him as efficient as possible.”
Madrid fans are excited because great players like Modric and Kroos have been amazing midfield leaders before. Alonso thinks Bellingham can be the next big star in midfield.
With Vinicius and Mbappe leading the attack, and Bellingham controlling the midfield behind them, Real Madrid could have an exciting season ahead.
Alonso has set his team up like a chess game, and Bellingham looks like the king of the midfield.
