Prince Harry was “Disappointed” after Diana’s sisters didn’t warm up to Meghan Markle

Prince Harry had high hopes when he introduced Meghan Markle to his late mother Princess Diana’s sisters, but things didn’t go as he expected. According to royal author Tom Bower in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, Harry thought Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes would see a reflection of Diana in Meghan.

But instead of a warm embrace, Harry was left “so disappointed” when Diana’s sisters didn’t share his view.

Harry believed Meghan had the same kindness, strength, and compassion that Diana was known for. But apparently, Diana’s sisters didn’t agree. According to Bower, they felt Meghan wouldn’t be the right fit for royal life, which left Harry feeling even more frustrated.

“Harry assumed that Diana’s family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. He was so disappointed. No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend,” Bower wrote.

Despite the lack of support, Harry stuck to his beliefs and married Meghan in 2018. Today, they’re raising their two kids, Archie and Lilibet, in California.

Prince Harry still sees Diana in Meghan Markle

Even years later, Harry stands by what he felt. In the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, released in 2022, he shared:

“So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her.”

It’s clear Harry still feels a deep connection between his wife and the mother he lost.

Meanwhile, Meghan continues to deal with intense public and media criticism. Most recently, there were reports claiming she lost out on a Vogue magazine cover due to allegedly making too many demands. Though the exact details are unclear, it added more fuel to ongoing debates about her public persona.

British journalist Esther Krakue also took a swipe at Meghan on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, suggesting that instead of trying to become a global “thought leader,” Meghan should simply “lean into being a hot woman who married a prince.”

Krakue also poked fun at Meghan’s recent appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, where the Duchess admitted she wouldn’t even know what to put on a resume anymore. Krakue quipped that Meghan “has probably never had to write one,” highlighting her critics’ belief that her fame and opportunities often came from privilege.

Even though Meghan has her fair share of critics, she’s still actively pursuing new projects and ventures. Whether it’s lifestyle brands, podcast appearances, or public interviews, she continues to shape her post-royal identity, regardless of the noise.
