Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently facing serious legal troubles, including sex trafficking charges, and his connections to numerous celebrities are being scrutinized as a result. Among those connections is Prince Harry, who has come under renewed speculation due to a resurfaced interview from 2011 in which Diddy claimed he tried to invite both Harry and Prince William to his infamous “freak-off parties.”

While many celebrities might be regretting their past associations with Diddy, the situation with Prince Harry is somewhat different. Diddy’s attempt to draw in the royal brothers has raised eyebrows, but it’s important to note that the princes have only met Diddy on one occasion. In fact, Harry’s account of their encounter varies from Diddy’s.

Harry discussed the meeting in his 2023 memoir, Spare, reflecting on the July 1, 2007, concert he and William hosted at Wembley Stadium to honor their late mother, Princess Diana. Diddy, alongside other A-list stars like Elton John, performed at this emotional event, but Harry only gives Diddy a single mention. He recalls how he and William approached the concert in a very business-like manner, focusing on details like ticket prices and venue size rather than emotional connections with the artists involved.

Harry writes about the nerve-wracking experience he and William faced when they had to take the stage. The pressure of performing in front of 65,000 attendees and a global audience of 500 million was overwhelming. He describes their feelings of paralysis as they were introduced, emphasizing that despite their upbringing in the spotlight, public speaking—especially about their mother—was not something they were accustomed to.

Although Harry and William appeared friendly with Diddy and Kanye West in photos from the event, they were wise enough to avoid any association with the kind of parties Diddy was known for. Their decision to not engage with Diddy’s lifestyle may have helped them dodge a lot of negative attention as Diddy’s legal issues unfold.

In hindsight, Harry seems fortunate that he didn’t delve deeper into his brief encounter with Diddy in his memoir, as any glowing remarks could have drawn unwanted scrutiny now that Diddy is in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
