Chris Tucker revealed in an interview with GQ that the role of the eccentric radio host Rudy Rhod in the science fiction movie “The Fifth Element” was initially offered to Prince. According to Tucker, director Luc Besson wanted a flamboyant character with a touch of sexuality, and Prince was considered for the role. However, Prince declined, possibly due to concerns about the wardrobe, as he had a distinctive style of his own.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Tucker mentioned that Prince later caught wind of Tucker taking on the role and simply stated that he “didn’t want to do it.” Tucker expressed relief and gratitude that the part ultimately came his way, emphasizing how the experience of playing Rudy Rhod allowed him to showcase a different range of acting skills.

Tucker acknowledged that working with Luc Besson on “The Fifth Element” was an incredible experience, and he appreciated the chance to portray the flamboyant and audacious character in a futuristic setting. The movie, released in the ’90s and starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich, is known for its visual effects and futuristic portrayal of New York City in the 23rd century. Tucker’s character, Rudy Rhod, stands out with his memorable costumes and vibrant personality in the film.
