Polestar, the premium EV brand spun off from Volvo, is continuing its rapid expansion with yet another electric vehicle on the horizon. The Polestar 7, expected to launch in 2028. This upcoming model will join the company’s growing lineup, which already includes the Polestar 2 sedan, the Polestar 3 midsize SUV, and the recently introduced Polestar 4, a sleeker, coupe-like electric crossover.

But don’t be misled by the naming. The “7” doesn’t reflect size, price, or luxury level, as it might with brands like Audi or BMW. Instead, Polestar numbers its models chronologically based on when they’re introduced. That’s why the Polestar 2 is still the smallest despite being the oldest, and the Polestar 4 was launched before the Polestar 5 or 6.

Next up will be the Polestar 5, a sleek four-door grand tourer, followed by the Polestar 6, an all-electric convertible. The Polestar 7, meanwhile, will be developed alongside upcoming Volvo electric SUVs and arrive later in the lineup, likely after the 6 makes its debut.

What We Know About the Polestar 7

Polestar describes the 7 as a compact all-electric SUV, designed to be more upright and traditional in shape than the Polestar 4, which has a more coupe-like silhouette. Judging by a teaser image recently released by the company, the Polestar 7 looks boxier and more SUV-like, suggesting a practical design that aligns with everyday family use.

While full specs are still under wraps, the Polestar 7 will share several technical foundations with Volvo’s EVs, specifically drawing from Volvo’s next-generation electric architecture. According to Polestar, it will feature:

  • Shared components from the Volvo group

  • Cell-to-body battery integration for improved efficiency and structural rigidity

  • A new generation of in-house electric motors

  • The brand’s signature emphasis on performance and refined driving dynamics

Analysts believe the Polestar 7 could be the brand’s version of the Volvo EX60, a fully electric successor to the popular Volvo XC60 SUV. That would place it below the Polestar 3 in size and price, potentially making it one of the brand’s more accessible offerings.

European Production to Avoid Tariff Issues

Polestar has confirmed that the 7 will be manufactured in Kosice, Slovakia, rather than China. This move is strategically important, as European production will help the automaker avoid high tariffs on Chinese-made EVs, which recently complicated the rollout of Volvo’s China-built EX30. By building the 7 within the EU, Polestar aims to ensure smoother market access and potentially lower pricing for European customers.

As of now, details on pricing, range, and performance are still to come. But with Polestar’s consistent focus on clean design, strong engineering ties with Volvo, and growing global presence, the Polestar 7 could be a compelling choice for drivers looking for a compact, electric alternative with Scandinavian styling and a premium feel.

More information will be released as the 2028 launch approaches.
