At the Cannes Film Festival on May 16, Emma Stone had a funny and slightly tense moment with a bee while walking the red carpet for her new film, Eddington. As she posed for photos alongside her co-stars Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler, a bee suddenly buzzed overhead, catching her off guard. You can actually see in a clip shared by Variety how Emma points at the little insect, then quickly pulls back with a laugh, clearly startled.
Luckily, her co-stars were right there to help out. Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler sprang into action—Austin even blew gently toward the bee, while Pedro tried to shoo it away, making sure Emma didn’t get stung. It was a lighthearted interruption during what’s usually a very formal moment.
Eddington is an exciting film, set in May 2020, and it’s a reunion for Joaquin Phoenix with director Ari Aster, who also wrote Beau Is Afraid. Austin Butler called filming the movie “a wild adventure” in a past interview, adding to the buzz around the project.
So, while Emma had a close encounter with a buzzing visitor on the Cannes red carpet, her quick-thinking castmates had her back—and the festival continued with plenty of excitement.
