Peaky Blinders is coming back, and fans couldn’t be more excited. The famous crime drama starring Cillian Murphy is all set to return with not one, but two new series. Cillian will once again play the iconic role of Tommy Shelby. After ending its six-season journey in 2022, the show is ready for a grand comeback on BBC and Netflix. The creator, Steven Knight, has confirmed that the story will continue with two more six-episode series, introducing a new generation of Shelbys.
The new story will take place in 1953 Birmingham. The city is still healing from the heavy destruction caused by World War II. It’s a time of rebuilding and hope, but also chaos and competition. As Birmingham rises from the ashes, different groups will clash to control the massive rebuilding projects happening across the city. Steven Knight described it as “a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz.” He said he’s thrilled to share this new chapter and promised that the next generation of Shelbys will take the story forward in a thrilling way.
Before the sequel series begin, there’s a movie on the way called The Immortal Man. It will act as a bridge between Tommy Shelby’s story and the new era of Shelbys. The movie doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it’s expected to arrive in 2026. Steven Knight hinted that it’s going to be “really brilliant” and that more details will be revealed soon.
The sequel series will be produced by Kudos and Garrison Drama, the same teams behind the original show. Lindsay Salt, the director of BBC Drama, said that Peaky Blinders made a huge impact when it first aired in 2013 and has become one of BBC’s most-loved dramas. She said Steven Knight has worked his magic again and hinted that fans can expect plenty of intense drama and surprises. Filming will take place in Birmingham, and the makers are confident it’s going to be an epic continuation of the Peaky Blinders legacy.
