Paul Feig says there’s no rule against three-quels and hints at more fun with the characters of A Simple Favor and Another Simple Favor

Director Paul Feig has teased fans with the possibility of a third installment in the stylish and twist-packed A Simple Favor franchise. Following the shocking ending of the second movie, Another Simple Favor, there might just be more mystery, murder, and mischief on the horizon.

The sequel left audiences hanging with a major cliffhanger: Emily (Blake Lively) has a secret third sister named Charity, who was kidnapped at birth by their scheming aunt Linda (played by Allison Janney). Raised to be a con artist and killer, Charity stirs up a storm by trying to frame Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) for two murders — one of them being Sean (Henry Golding), and the other Dante (Michele Morrone), Emily’s fiancé.

But just when things look bleak for Stephanie, Emily swoops in and saves her. She also manages to stop Dante’s mafia family from killing Stephanie. The film reaches its tense climax on a dramatic Italian cliffside, where Emily and Stephanie confront Linda and Charity. Emily cleverly convinces Charity to confess to the murders, allowing herself to vanish once again into the shadows — classic Emily.

However, director Paul Feig revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that this wasn’t the original plan. The earlier version of the script painted Dante as a villain who faked his own death and framed Emily. It had more of a “caper” vibe, with Emily and Stephanie forced to go on the run.

The final scene of Another Simple Favor hints that the story is far from over. Emily is approached by Dante’s mafia mother (played by Elena Sofia Ricci) at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, who mysteriously asks Emily for another “simple favor.” What exactly that favor is remains a mystery — but it sounds dangerous, and apparently, it’s something that no one else in the family would dare to do.

So, does this mean we’ll be getting a third movie?

Feig, who usually avoids making sequels, surprisingly seems interested in continuing the saga. “It’s all sitting right there to be picked off the tree,” he said. “As much as I don’t like to do sequels, I have no rule against threequels. There’s much more fun to be had with these characters.”

While nothing is confirmed just yet, fans of Emily and Stephanie’s glamorous chaos can take comfort in knowing that the door to a third film is wide open — and Emily might be stepping through it with yet another jaw-dropping favor to deliver.
