Park Seo Joon is diving into darker territory with his next major project, taking on the complex and gritty role of a dr*g dealer in the upcoming drama I Am A Sinner. This announcement, made via K-media outlet My Daily on July 4, comes just ahead of his scheduled December release, Waiting for Gyeongdo, where he plays a much softer, romantic character. The shift in tone between the two roles signals a bold and deliberate expansion of his acting range.
In I Am A Sinner, Park Seo Joon will portray Paeng I, also known as Park Eon Jin—the lone survivor of a catastrophic gold shop incident. The drama follows his transformation from a man caught in tragedy to a central figure in the underworld. He partners with a secretive syndicate and builds a powerful position for himself through the dr*g trade after gaining control of the stolen gold. Despite being the youngest in the organization, Paeng I quickly rises through the ranks, using ruthless intelligence, cold pragmatism, and violent tactics to dominate the criminal scene. His hunger for power drives him to betray allies, manipulate rival groups, and cement his reputation as someone who will stop at nothing to reach the top.
Based on the webtoon of the same name by Lee Moo Gi, which has been serialized on Kakao Webtoon since 2022, the drama adaptation promises high-stakes action and psychological depth. The role stands in stark contrast to Park Seo Joon’s more familiar romantic and heroic leads, such as in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim or Itaewon Class. This new project is expected to let him explore a raw, morally ambiguous character that fans haven’t seen from him before.
While details about the drama’s supporting cast, production team, release date, and streaming platform are still under wraps, anticipation is building. Fans are eager to see Park Seo Joon step into this intense, anti-hero role and deliver a performance that challenges expectations and showcases his dramatic range.
