KPop Demon Hunters has officially claimed the crown as Netflix’s most-watched title, surpassing Squid Game. As of September 3, the animated film directed by Maggie Kang reached 266 million views, overtaking Hwang Dong Hyuk’s series that had held the top spot since its premiere in September 2021. The milestone was achieved just 74 days after the film’s release on June 20, 2025, marking a remarkable feat for a K-pop-inspired title.

The English-language film follows Rumi, a half-demon, half-demon hunter, and her team HUNTRIX as they compete to become top stars while protecting the honmoon, a shield that keeps Earth safe from fan-hungry demons. Their journey intersects with Saja Boys, a K-pop boy group made up of demons aiming to steal HUNTRIX’s source of power: their fans.

KPop Demon Hunters had previously overtaken Red Notice to become Netflix’s most-watched film and even saw a successful theatrical sing-along release, which was later made available online. Discussions for a sequel are underway, with Netflix and Sony Pictures exploring the possibility of continuing the story, and a live-action adaptation has also been rumored.
