A new Overwatch 2 comic might finally be teasing Emre Sarioglu as a playable hero, and he looks nothing like fans expected. He appears with a menacing, almost demonic appearance, powerful explosive abilities, and a link to one of the biggest hidden conspiracies in Overwatch 2 lore. It seems likely that Emre could join the game very soon.
Fans got their first real look at Emre in years during the reveal of Freja, the first new hero of 2025. At the end of her cinematic, Talon executive Maximilien hires Freja to track down Emre. The two share a history, having worked closely on Overwatch’s search and rescue team, making the mission personal as well as professional.
The new comic, “Search & Destroy,” picks up right after Freja’s cinematic. It shows her searching for Emre while unraveling a major twist in his story. After leaving Overwatch, Emre had joined Talon, only to go rogue again. The comic follows Freja as she meets Talon operatives like Moira, Mauga, Widowmaker, and Reaper while gathering clues about Emre’s whereabouts. She notices that most of his Talon missions are around satellite command centers that monitor global security, except for one in Riyadh she remembers visiting during their Overwatch days.
When Freja finally finds him, Emre is attacking the facility. But he is not the same man she knew. His new design is called “demonic” by the fallen soldiers he faces. He uses a hardlight pistol that hasn’t been seen in Overwatch 2 before, and his eyes are completely black. He unleashes a massive blast that destroys reinforcements, but after the explosion, his eyes return to normal and he recognizes Freja.
Interestingly, Emre’s voice in the comic is performed by an unidentified male actor, separate from Olivia Le Andersen who voices all other characters. This adds to the evidence that Emre could soon be playable in Overwatch 2.
Emre first appeared in Ana’s origin story portrait back in 2016, and his name was confirmed in a lore document in 2018. His face and name were officially connected in Overwatch: Declassified in 2023, but he remained a mysterious figure until Freja’s reveal last year.
The comic also hints at bigger implications. Emre’s dark appearance and Talon alliance are shocking, but his personality shift is even more surprising. His armor features a red eye symbol with three dots above and below. This symbol has appeared before in Overwatch lore. Sombra has been investigating a secret group using the mark, which may have been involved in destroying Overwatch’s headquarters. Emre’s new powers and dark transformation could be tied to this conspiracy, setting the stage for a major storyline in the game.
