The Oscar nominations for 2026 have officially been announced, and this year’s list is already being described as one for the history books. While Sinners dominated headlines by smashing the record for the most nominations ever received by a single film, the awards conversation quickly expanded beyond just one title. Emma Stone and Timothée Chalamet both secured nominations that place them firmly in the Academy’s record books.
Sinners leads the nominations with a staggering 16 nods, making it the most-nominated film in Oscar history. The achievement signals a strong year for bold, ambitious filmmaking, with the Academy clearly embracing scale, risk and star power.
Emma Stone has emerged as one of the night’s biggest history-makers. At 37, she earned her 7th Oscar nomination with a Best Actress nod for Bugonia. That milestone makes her the youngest woman ever to reach 7 nominations and the second-youngest person overall. Only Walt Disney achieved the feat at a younger age, earning his 7th nomination at 34. Until now, the female record had been held by Meryl Streep, who reached 7 nominations at 38.
Stone’s achievements do not stop there. As a named producer on Bugonia, which is also nominated for Best Picture, she has become the first woman ever to be nominated twice for both producing and acting on the same film. She previously achieved the same double recognition for Poor Things. Before Stone, Frances McDormand was the only woman to do this once, with 2021’s Nomadland.
Timothée Chalamet has also rewritten Oscar history. At 30, he is now the youngest male actor ever to receive 3 acting nominations. His previous nods came for Call Me by Your Name and A Complete Unknown, with his latest recognition arriving for Marty Supreme.
Like Stone, Chalamet is also a named producer on his nominated film. Marty Supreme is up for Best Picture, making him the youngest person ever to be double-nominated for producing and acting in the same year. The previous record belonged to Warren Beatty, who achieved the same feat at 30 while being several months older. Beatty’s record had stood unbroken for 58 years, dating back to Bonnie and Clyde in 1967.
In the Best Actress category, Stone faces stiff competition from Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, and Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value. The lineup reflects a wide range of performances, from intimate drama to emotionally charged character studies.
Meanwhile, Chalamet’s Best Actor race includes Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael B Jordan for Sinners, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. It is one of the most competitive acting categories in recent memory.
Both Bugonia and Marty Supreme are among the 10 films nominated for Best Picture. They join F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams, rounding out a diverse and ambitious slate that signals a defining year for the Oscars.
