OpenAI announced the return of Sam Altman as a board member following the conclusion of an internal investigation into his departure in November. The investigation, conducted by US law firm WilmerHale, concluded by revealing the circumstances that led to Altman’s dismissal and return to the company.
Three new members joined Altman’s Board of Directors: Dr. Sue Desmond-Herman, Nicole Seligman and Fergie Simo. This addition marks a new chapter for OpenAI, which aims to strengthen its leadership and emerge from the recent crisis.
According to the summary of findings, a serious loss of trust between the former board and Altman led to Altman’s dismissal. But the review concluded that the board acted in good faith and did not foresee the controversy that would follow Altman’s departure. The concerns raised are not about product safety, security or financial issues, but focus on the lack of trust between Altman and the board.
Altman expressed his gratitude to the board and WilmerHale, expressing his commitment to progress, and thanked Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati for her support during difficult times. Altman also admitted that he wished his dispute with the board had been resolved differently.
Altman’s return comes as OpenAI continues to face legal challenges. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk recently filed a lawsuit against Altman and Gregg Brockman, alleging breach of contract and warranty. Musk believes OpenAI’s relationship with Microsoft, including its $10 billion investment, violates the company’s previous agreements.
The lawsuit stems from controversy surrounding Altman’s chip venture, including reports of fundraising for a new chip business called “Altman.” Tigris” and investment in artificial intelligence launched Rain Neuromorphics. In December, the US government forced the Saudi Aramco-backed investment company to divest its stake in Rain Neuromorphics.
Despite legal troubles and disappointments, OpenAI is still a big company The restructuring and appointment of a new board of Altman, a player in the AI industry with significant investments and a growing user base, demonstrates the company’s determination to overcome challenges and pursue its goals in its field of expertise.
