Only Murders in the Building is back with its fifth season. The series stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, who return to investigate a new murder in the Arconia. The previous season ended with Lester found dead in the building’s fountain, and the trio will continue their detective work while balancing their personal lives, including Oliver’s new marriage.
The trailer shows Mabel, Charles, and Oliver discussing Lester’s death, which the police have labeled as “accidental.” It also hints that Lester was visited by a mobster and his five brothers.
The official synopsis reveals that the trio refuses to accept Lester’s death as an accident. Their investigation uncovers a web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters, and mysterious residents of the Arconia. The season also explores the evolving divide in New York, where old mobsters clash with newer, more dangerous players.
Joining Gomez, Martin, and Short are returning and new faces, including Meryl Streep, Bobby Cannavale, Beanie Feldstein, Christoph Waltz, Renée Zellweger, and many others.
Only Murders in the Building season 5 will premiere on Hulu on September 9.
