Strands is the latest puzzle from The New York Times, adding a new twist to the classic word search game. It challenges your word-finding skills with a bit more complexity.

How to Play Strands

In Strands, your goal is to find “theme words” hidden in a grid of letters. To do this, you drag or tap through the letters to form words, and double-tap the last letter to confirm. When you find the correct words, they turn blue and are no longer selectable.

If you find non-theme words (at least four letters long), you earn hints. For every three of these non-theme words, a letter from one of the theme words will be revealed, which you then unscramble.

The entire grid is used to spell out the theme words with no overlap—every letter is used exactly once. Each puzzle also includes a “spangram,” a special theme word or words that touch opposite sides of the board and are highlighted yellow.
