Connections is the newest brain teaser from the New York Times, where you need to group 16 words into four hidden categories by figuring out how they’re related. The puzzle refreshes daily at midnight, and, like Wordle, it tracks your streak and lets you compare your scores with friends. Some puzzles are easy, while others are a bit more challenging.

How to Play Connections

In Connections, you’re presented with a grid of 16 words, and your task is to sort them into four groups of four based on how they’re connected. The categories could be anything—titles of video games, book sequels, colors, restaurant names, and more.

Some words might seem like they fit in more than one category, but there’s only one correct solution. You can shuffle and rearrange the words on the grid to help spot the connections.

Each group is color-coded, with the easiest group marked in yellow, followed by green, blue, and purple as difficulty increases. To test a guess, pick four words and hit Submit. If you’re correct, those words will disappear, and the connecting theme will be revealed. But guess wrong, and you’ll make a mistake—four mistakes and it’s game over.
