Penn Badgley and Kristen Bell share a special connection in the world of television, whether it’s through starring in the same shows or lending their voices to one another’s characters. This connection was brought back into the spotlight recently when Netflix surprised fans with Nobody Wants This, a new series starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody.
Penn Badgley, who is widely recognized for his role in You, made a surprise appearance in the show by narrating a scene, which added a cool twist to the series and continued Netflix’s streak of successful content.
The surprise was revealed in a social media post that left fans excited. Netflix shared a video on Instagram showing Penn Badgley sitting against a black background. With a grin, he greeted viewers with the famous line, “Hello, Upper East Siders. You know you love me,” a nod to his past role as Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl. He went on to reminisce about how Kristen Bell, who voiced the mysterious Gossip Girl character, had introduced his character in the series finale. Penn shared that now, it was his turn to return the favor by narrating a scene in Nobody Wants This.
In the brief clip that Netflix shared, Penn’s voice played over a scene featuring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody enjoying a quiet moment together. Penn’s narration added a humorous and insightful commentary to the scene, with lines like, “You can’t be serious—eating ice cream together,” as the couple walked down the street. He then added, “I know the friend zone is usually a cold, dark place—perfect for burying your feelings in frozen delicacies by the shovelful—but this is torture.”
Penn’s voice took a more reflective tone as he acknowledged the awkwardness of the situation, pointing out how hard it can be to move on from someone when there’s always that small chance they might feel the same way. But despite the sadness of the moment, Penn also noted how surprisingly strong emotions could be tied to something as simple as eating ice cream, adding that he never expected it to be so powerful.
The narration was a perfect fit, and with his signature calming voice, Penn hinted at something deeper in the storyline, saying the female character clearly didn’t just want to be friends, but in fact, had stronger feelings. As the scene concluded, Penn jokingly stated that what he really wanted was Adam Brody, adding a playful twist.
Fans of both Nobody Wants This and You can look forward to more of this entertaining collaboration, as Nobody Wants This has already been renewed for a second season. Meanwhile, You is gearing up for its final season, set to air on Netflix this April. The unexpected reunion between these two television stars has certainly made waves, and it looks like there’s more fun to come!
