In a symbolic but impactful start to the New Hampshire Republican primary, presidential hopeful Nikki Haley secured an early victory by winning all six votes in the small town of Dixville Notch during the traditional midnight ballot on Tuesday.
The rural township, located in the north-central region of New Hampshire, unanimously supported Haley, providing her with an encouraging boost as the state’s primary election unfolds. Haley expressed her gratitude on the social media platform X, saying, “A great start to a great day in New Hampshire. Thank you Dixville Notch!”
The timing of this victory is noteworthy as the Republican field recently narrowed to a two-person race between Haley and former President Donald Trump after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis withdrew from the race on Sunday.
Dixville Notch has a tradition of holding the late-night presidential primary since 1960, and while its early results may not always be a reliable indicator of the state-wide primary outcome, the unanimous support for Haley is a positive development for her campaign.
The small group of voters in Dixville Notch, consisting of four registered Republicans and two registered independents, efficiently cast their ballots in just 10 minutes. This swift and unanimous decision in favor of Haley showcases early momentum in her bid for the Republican nomination.
It’s worth noting that Dixville Notch has a history of providing intriguing results. Four years ago, in 2020, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg won the vote with three write-in votes, surpassing Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg and independent Senator Bernie Sanders. In 2016, former Ohio Governor John Kasich won the race in Dixville Notch with three votes, narrowly defeating Donald Trump.
While the outcome in Dixville Notch may not determine the overall winner of the New Hampshire primary, it serves as a symbolic and positive start for Nikki Haley’s campaign in this key battleground state. The race continues, with candidates vying for broader support in the coming weeks.
