A state of emergency has been declared in New York City as strong storms bring flash flooding.
Many of the city’s highways, streets, and subways have been flooded, and at least one terminal was shut at LaGuardia Airport on Friday.
Up to 8in (20 cm) of rain fell in some part of the city and as per the forecasters, a few more inches are expected later on Friday.
“This is a dangerous, life-threatening storm,” stated Governor Kathy Hochul. In a tweet, the Governor stated, “I am declaring a state of emergency across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley due to extremely rainfall we’re seeing throughout the region.”

Further ahead, Hochul also appealed to the people to take necessary measures to stay safe such as not travel on flooded roads.
Until now, no deaths or critical injuries have been reported.
State of emergency was also declared in New Jersey’s Hoboken, city just across the river Hudson.
In NYC, Mayor Eric Adams told CBS, that there were 15 rescues from cars and three rescues from basement apartments.
