New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy has declared her candidacy for the Senate seat, on Wednesday, currently being held by Senator Bob Menendez.
The politician took it to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote, “I’m Tammy Murphy and I’m running for U.S. Senate to fight for New Jersey, our families and our democracies.” Her husband is New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. If elected, Murphy would become the first woman to be elected to the Senate from Garden State.
In an announcement video posted online, Murphy stated that the state needs a senator who will work towards, abortion rights, end of gun violence, lowering the cost of living, and defending the democracy, as giving a hint towards her agendas.

Murphy, 58, has been a constant at events with her Governor husband, and she had taken on maternal and infant health and the environment as her top priority during her time as first lady – the issues which she has highlighted in her announcement.
Apart from being the first lady, Murphy’s political resume also includes being a founder of a think tank, before his husband’s first run for office in 2017, that was used to showcase his ideas.
